During the May 2025 edition of our Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) course, professionals from Georgia, Iraq, Libya, Tunisia, Turkey, and the Netherlands participated in a hands-on session at Save the Children Netherlands to help address real-life MEL challenges.

A key component of our MEL course is the opportunity to engage directly with organisations implementing international cooperation projects and programmes. Each edition includes a visit to an organisation to help participants apply what they have learned in a real-world setting. This time, we were hosted by Save the Children NL, who provided two MEL challenges focused on youth participation in policy-making and advocacy on climate change.

From frameworks to action

Participants worked in teams to reformulate outcomes, develop indicators, design learning questions and create a simple tracking tool. They then presented their recommendations to Save the Children staff, sparking a lively discussion on the challenges of outcome-level monitoring in dynamic policy environments.

By working on real cases and receiving direct feedback, participants strengthened both their technical and analytical skills. This hands-on approach encourages reflective learning and better prepares professionals to navigate the complexities of MEL work in their own contexts.
