This course is meant for people who work in the humanitarian and development sector and are interested to learn why localisation (also called locally-led development) is important, and what tools and skills can make it work for their organisations.

Localisation means empowering local responders to lead and deliver humanitarian and development aid. It aims to strengthen the capacities and resources of local organisations to ensure long(er)-term sustainability. Localisation recognises the importance of local contextual knowledge and cultural understanding in providing effective and culturally appropriate development assistance.

In this course, we look at localisation and equitable partnerships. We will discuss how historic trends, persisting attitudes and problematic practices work against effective localisation and how to build and capitalise on more equitable partnerships.
